The Death Lane (Jesus’ Baptism)

.

When you look at the facts, Jesus’ baptism is a strange story. The only person who doesn’t need to participate in a baptism of repentance, insists that he needs to. Why? Because God was doing something new in the world, momentum was building, the Kingdom of God was near, and Jesus wanted in on the action. If we are serious about imitating Jesus, we need to step in so that God can step us up, even if it means risking the death lane.

Where has the Holy Spirit been silent for too long?

(Matthew 3:1-16)

Australians Together (Seek Understanding)

Sometimes our response to matters of injustice must be counter-intuitive. When it comes to Australia’s history and treatment of our indigenous brothers and sisters this is most definitely the case. Ignorance is unacceptable, being informed only takes us so far – but to seek understanding, is to live reconciliation.

Do you need to STOP, LOOK or LISTEN?

(Luke 16:19-31)

A Case of Mistaken Identity (Sex & Identity)

God gave us our sexuality, it’s a good thing. Yet so easily our sexuality can become the primary expression of our identity with disastrous results – we get caught in a case of mistaken identity. This message is about exploring the needs that would make a part become the person, and where our true identity should be found.

Sex is good, but it is not God.

(Judges 13-16, 1 Corinthians 7)

Rules That Release (The Ten Commandments)

So often we can picture the Ten Commandments as a frustrating set of rules that ultimately restrict our freedom. In this message we explore not only how to creatively remember the Ten Commandments, but also the significance of God’s rules not being that which restrict us, but rather release us into the life he designed us to have.

God’s rules are always for our release, moving us day by day from slave to priest.

(Exodus 20:1-18)

Under the Surface (The Plagues)

Sometimes in our ‘comfort’ of Christianity, or in recognizing the scandal of God’s grace, it is easy to forget that God is not just a lover, but a judge. Through the signs and wonders imposed on the oppressive empire of Egypt, we see a God whose judgement doesn’t need to punish but simply reveals evil for what it truly is.

When that staff strikes you, what will rise to the surface?

(Exodus 6:1-10:29)
