The Holy Spirit is Not a Blob

 

I remember when youth from the local brethren church would come visit the Pentecostal church I grew up in just so they could see people speaking in tongues – and people complain about ”attractional” churches nowadays!

This perpetuated the idea in my mind as a young Christian that the Holy Spirit was only active in certain places and under certain circumstances, as if God actually needs our permission to be at work in the world. This idea is shattered if we take the time to look at the Scriptures.

When we do this, the question shifts from, “Is God present to us?” to “Are we present to God?
